He has been instrumental in transforming prestigious organizations as Director General, Amity University, Jaipur; Director of Army Institute of Technology, and Joint Secretary in Cabinet Secretariat, GOI.

A scholar soldier, Col Khanna devoted 33 years in the Indian Army and held many command, staff and instructional appointments as Faculty and Head of Department Operations Research at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, Head of Computer Department at College of Military Engineering, Pune. Post retirement, he worked as Professor and Dean Academics, IMS Roorkee, Professor at ICMAI and IIPM Jaipur.
He has to his credit a number of books on both military and management subjects: ‘1971 – A Sappers’ War’, ‘God’s Own – The Bengal Sappers’, and ‘Sarvatra – The Corps of Engineers’, ‘Quantitative Techniques for Managerial Decisions’, ‘Production and Operations Management’ and ‘Project Management’ published by PHI Learning (erstwhile Prentice-Hall India). He has co-authored ‘Quantitative Techniques for Decision Making’. He has a number of professional articles published too.
He has held the prestigious appointment of Brigade Major for two tenures, commanded an Engineer Regiment and was Director Financial Planning at the Army HQ, Delhi. He was awarded the Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation Card for his work with the Financial Planning Directorate. He participated in the 1971 War in the Bangladesh Sector as a field company commander.
A keen trainer, he has conducted training programmes for Bhakra Beas Maganement Board, Chandigarh besides in the Defence and Civil sector.
